Ownership problems solved

Most people who consider buying a holiday property realise that there can be drawbacks as well as advantages to owning your own "piece of paradise".  We've found that when someone is trying to convince you of the merits of something they would like to "sell" you - an outright purchase, a timeshare, a fractional scheme or a group scheme like ours - it's useful to say "Don't tell me what your idea does. Describe a problem that I have, for which your idea provides a good solution".

If the seller can accurately describe something which is a real issue for you, then maybe he really does have the right answer. Because the OwnerGroups system was developed to solve problems that its founder had experienced personally, we think it will work for you, too.

I'm attracted to buying on my own, but...

What I really want costs a lot more than I can reasonably justify spending.
You pay only the fraction you can afford

I wouldn't like leaving it unused for months.
Your co-owners will use it as well, so someone who cares will frequently be there

I'll need rental income to cover running costs
Now you'll only pay a fraction of these costs

Because I'll need to rent, I'll have to get utility furniture and things rather than really good quality.
You can jointly afford top quality, and expect it to be well looked after  by the other owners.

While renters cover some of the costs, I know they won't look after things properly.
Co-owners however do care for things, and will upgrade more often.

I'd like to go quite a lot, but any rental agency would want me to give them control of most of the best time
You have much less need to rent, so don't need to use an agency, AND as much time as you want is available.

While in principle I don't mind renting, I hate having to pack so many of "our"  things away each time I leave
You won't need to pack most things away, but will have private storage for your most personal items

I don't want to feel I have to go back for every holiday, because we've put so much money into it.
You can go to other places with a clear conscience - you've only put a part of your money in, and the other owners will use it even if you don't

I dont like feeling that because so many chores will accumulate if I dont go there at every opportunity.
Other owners will often be there, and all responsibility is shared. Also, you can afford to pay professionals to do chores.

I'd like to have a property there, but I'd like to in other places as well
You can spread the same money over several properties if you like

Its difficult to manage things from so far away
Professional management is affordable if you only pay a fraction

Any major problem problems would be cripplingly expensive to fix
Even in the worst case, you'll only pay a fraction.

The next page looks at issues found with other sharing systems, such as Fractional and Timeshare.
